Goal Setting
“If you want to live a happy (and successful) life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” - Albert Einstein
Many of us feel like we work hard but don't get anywhere. A key reason that we feel this way is that we really don’t have a clear picture of where we want to be so of course we can’t ‘get there’.
No matter where you are you will likely NOT achieve what you thought you would, get out of the rut you are in or get to the place you wish, unless you heed the words of the Cheshire Cat in ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’.
The quote we often read is… “If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will get you there.”
But that is not what Carroll wrote. The proper exchange is:
“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?” asked Alice.
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat.
“I don’t much care where–“said Alice.
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,” said the Cat.
“–so long as I get SOMEWHERE,” Alice added as an explanation.
“Oh, you’re sure to do that,” said the Cat, “if you only walk long enough.”
Start setting your feet in the right path by setting some meaningful goals.
Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision of this future into reality.
The process of setting goals helps you choose where you want to go in life. By knowing precisely what you want to achieve, you know where you have to concentrate your efforts. You'll also quickly spot the distractions that can, so easily, lead you astray.
“If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much.” - Jim Rohn
