Goal Setting: To Do or To Be?

Ultimately, our goals should be about who we are becoming, not just what we do. This is perhaps why resolutions don't work. Afterall, we are human beings, not human doings. So if your goals are only about activities (things you want to get done) it will always be challenging to sustain your motivation.
Consider starting with a picture of who you want to become at a particular period in time (vision) and keep that picture visible to your mind, step backward, brake it down to SMART goals and what you have will be a strategy. This way, you will keep finding the energy to work towards your goals and position for a desirable future.
In our innermost being, we simply want to become significant and fulfilled, not just busy doers. So I challenge you to look through your goals for this year again and ask yourself a sincere question: what will achieving my goals for this year help me become? If you can't find answers, you probably need to rework your goals and strategy for the year.
Remember, life isn't just about what you do or don't do; it is more about who you're becoming as a result of what you do. Another way of saying this is that there are no real SMART goals without a VISION.
With love from Paris...to a great 2018. Cheers!
