Often the goals we set are too vague or too big. Or worse, we hold our business back by not dreaming big enough.??
Goals need to be realistic enough to achieve but daring enough to push us out of our comfort zone.??
Most of us weren’t brought up with the habit of setting goals. Let alone setting one big target for the year. Instead, we are brought up with an idea of what we’d like to achieve but no real roadmap of how we get there.??
What happens next is we forget about or give up on our goals - if we set them in the first place - feel despondent about it and don’t move their business forward as fast or as far as they would like.??
Successful people swear by goal setting??
Whether it's in business, sports or music, goal-setting takes them to the next level. Think about a sprinter who is talented and comes first in many local races. They fix their goal on running at county or even national level.??
The sprinter knows that when they enter a team, they will no longer be the fastest running and so, they need to work towards that goal. They might get a better training plan, hire a specialist coach. They will probably look at every aspect of their life from sleep, to nutrition, their training schedule and activities outside of running. They will even look at their hair style, clothing, and running shoes.??
Everything will be monitored and tracked to give them the best possible edge.??
But they don’t wake up one morning and decide to do this all in one fell swoop. Instead, they set a crystal clear goal, break it down into smaller steps and set about achieving the small goals one-by-one.??
It takes dedication and motivation.??
It also takes one other thing that you don’t always hear about when setting a goal: habits.
You always remember what you need to do?
Setting a habit in place to take action towards your goals on a daily basis is hard but necessary.??
The analogy I tell my BBB members is that when you want to lose weight, you always remember that you need to eat healthy at bedtime. Instead, you need to remember throughout the day when you’re tempted by that chocolate bar or slice of cake.??
If you want to achieve your goals, then you need to set a habit in place where you take small daily steps towards your destination.??
Let’s say you make a crystal clear goal like make £100k and your business is currently turning over around £50k.??
You need to break down what it is that you need to do in order to double your income over the 12 months.??

It might be that you need more clients, or that you need to charge more. There may be other parts of your business that aren’t working for you right now. Whatever it is, you need to sit and work out what those step are and then make time to do them each and every day.??
But you can only do this if you set the right goals in the first place.??.
Very few people master the art of goal setting?

>> Add a plan to your goal setting and your chance of achieving it goes up to 50%.??
>> If you publicly commit to your goal, your chances increase to 65%??

But the real magic happens when you are held accountable for these goals.??

Of course, you need to be in that 3% of people who set goals in the first place. And let’s be clear, if you are setting goals in your business, then you already have an advantage over your competitors.??
