Goal Setting [2017]

Goal Setting [2017]

What are your goals in 2017

Before we speak any further about goals, we need to examine, what success means to most of us, for which we shall need goals. Success can mean different things to different people. But true success is a balance of a number of things. A successful person will be happy, positive, healthy, and reasonably prosperous, secured, confident, have peace of mind, enjoy good relationships and will have hope for a better future.

The reason that I felt it necessary to mention here is because, there are a lot of people who set financial goals and achieve them, but at the end of it looses everything else. The world is full of such lonely, unhappy, sick rich people. Of course you do not want to be one of them.

Therefore, you need to have goals that will cover every ingredient of success. Based on these, the probable types of goals are given below. These are not given in the order of priority or importance, because it is your life and they are your goals.

here are a total of 7 goals in life which I would like to share with all of you here.

Physical Goals:

These are the goals related to your physical well being and health. If you need to loose weight, or improve your physical condition and health in some way, you will need to set these goals properly.

Career Goals:

Where do you want to be in your career three years from now, five or ten years from! In what position you see yourself and what you will do to reach there, what kind of value you will add to your skills, both hard and soft, will fall under career goals.

Financial Goals:

When are you planning your retirement, what kind of house do you want to live in, what kind of car you want to drive, where you want to go for vacation, what kind of education do you want to afford for your children? Answer to all these will depend on you financial planning, and achievement of your financial Goal Setting.

Relationships & Family Goals:

Relationships and your family are one of the biggest assets that you may have. How will you improve your old friendships, and make new ones? What will you do for your spouse, children, parents, greater family, so as to take these relationships to a greater depth? It is worth it to set goals in this area to have a fulfilled life.

Self-Development & Spiritual Goals:

People are like fruits. As long as you are green, you are still growing. If you stop growing, you are ripe and fall onto the ground. One of the greatest blessings of human life is the lifelong ability to learn. So, keep learning, keep growing internally. Set goals for improving your attitude, patience, faith etc.

People who are spiritually higher enjoy better self image, better relationships and more financial success as they have stronger faith. Spiritual upliftment is an important purpose of all human life and one should set goals in this area of self development

Pleasure Goals:

You have the right to enjoy and have pleasure. Set goals for your enjoyment and how you are going to spend time for yourself. Goals may be set for holidays, entertainment, learning new languages or for taking up new hobbies.

Social Goals:

More often your success will be measured by what you do for the society rather than your personal achievements. As a human being it is your responsibility to give back to society more than what you receive from it. Any goals that you set for this purpose are Social Goals.

 -------------------------------------------------------------------

Have you set the above goals already? If not, do take out a piece of paper or print this note and begin to write down what you want to achieve in 2017.

If you look at the above goals carefully, you will see that all these goals are actually inter-dependent. For example how well you do financially depends on your progression in your career. Similarly your career, relationships will depend on the level of your personal and spiritual development as well as your physical well being.

The type of pleasure that you will be able to afford and even some of the relationships that you will enjoy will be dependent on your career and financial situations. Of course you will not want to expand your family if you can not afford it financially. So, while setting a goal, you should take into consideration different aspects of your life. Then only you will be able to enjoy a balanced success.

If you set goals that are only materialistic in nature, such as only career goals and financial goals, while neglecting other goals in life, chances are that you will do well in these two areas, but will be stressed out, burned out, and unhappy at that the end of it.

Here, I wish to make myself clear. I am not against having accumulating lots of wealth, but in its favor. Many, people say that too much money is bad, or money is evil. I do not believe in it. Money is a great indices of success, and can bring immense joy. In this material world it can give you power to help others, and do a lot of other things. It is bad or evil when money becomes your God. It is evil, when you run after money, thus sacrificing everything else that will ultimately matter, such as your values, relationships, health and eventually mental peace.

It is our attitude towards money that can be good or bad, not money itself. You are most welcome to share your views on your goals and let others be an inspiration and a source of encouragement to you.

Let us have a wonderful and meaningful new year 2017 ... :)

An interesting post that sparked a general query about setting goals that you may be able to shed some light on. Goal setting has been discussed and publicised for a long time and encouraging is now foundational in many areas of life. It will be unusual for an individual not to have come across goal setting early in life through education or work. A quick internet search (e.g. https://bit.ly/1rATBgJ, https://bit.ly/1Xf6qtj) will reveal the enormous knowledge base around setting goals. In relation to this knowledge base, your post could be considered as a restatement of what is extensively explored and readily accessible in that knowledge base. This is a ‘what if’ assertion to aid in presenting my query rather than it being the actual situation or criticism. Assuming for a moment that your post is a restatement, it would seems odd for two reasons. Firstly, because goal setting is equal to success and we will be unsuccessful if we don't set goals. For many success equates to money (however, we know there are many different definitions of success). It would be unlikely that anyone would need reminding about goals are they are faced with the constant reinforcement across various media, and putting goal setting into a search engine will give them the information they need. Secondly, in the digital age, there is anywhere anytime access to the Internet. If any thought of goal setting crosses someone’s mind they have instant access to the vast information base on every aspect of goal setting. It’s likely that every aspect of goal setting, and its challenges, is already available via an Internet search meaning a reminder seems unnecessary. Even with the vast goal setting knowledge base, and decades of promotion and reinforcement, there appears to be a stubborn resistance to goal setting in it’s many and various forms. I’m not sure resistance is the right word, but it is clear that the vast information base and decades of promotion/reinforcement is not making headway in terms of the widespread adoption of goal setting. As goal setting is the only means to achieve success one would that thought it would have established itself as a default for people in work and life in general. As the need for your post indicates this is not the case, indicating that there is something that is stopping this being the case, some very effective resistance to goal setting. Assuming for a moment that the above makes some sense, I'd be interested in your views about why the resistance to goal setting is so strong and enduring, even though it is viewed as so critical to success and reinforced on a daily basis?
