Go-To-Market Ops "Quick" Continuing Education on Udemy 2023

If I could condense down and get through Jeff Ignacio ’s, Sara McNamara ’s, Darrell Alfonso ’s, Chris Orlob ’s, and Leah Tharin 's (yep, follow all of them) existing and forthcoming #courses as my between-gigs #continuingeducation, I would. However, though I’ve probably only got a couple weeks and I likely won’t get to all of this before my next role starts, Udemy was having a SALE and I got excited (props to Emily Harmeyer and Geoff Arens who are great to work with and why the platform stays top of mind for me). So, yeah, I bought a bunch of learning and wanted to share my approach to #gotomarket continuing education here! Disclaimer: This is a curated but as yet untested list and I haven't taken and evaluated all the course below in depth. Consider this a #speedguide and not an official endorsement.


Priority 1 - Growth/ Digital Marketing/ Advertising Refreshers

I spent a ton of time managing #inbound, #advertising, and #websites in the first 10 years of my career, so know the general toolset, #channels, and primary points of #friction within the funnel, but stuff moves fast and there’s always newness to learn, trends to catch up on, and crazy tools to know and eventually understand and apply. Feeling like PokemonGo up in here! Gotta catch’em ALL!


Priority 2 - Productivity, Alignment and OKRs

OKRs are important to #practice and think through as a #manager and #leader. So often people just spend an hour or so on them quarterly and then don’t develop any rigor around their formulation or execution. I’ve seen #OKRs done well and also seen them be a complete train wreck. When done well, they're really pretty rad and they help the whole #organization execute at a higher level as well as promotes a solid direction and #productive calm.


Priority 3 - AI and Prompt Engineering “Deep Dive”

Because AI is happening and happening fast whether you like it or not! I happen to like it and think it’s going to unleash some amazing things for those who use it creatively! Think about how you, your peers and your extended teams can increase your productivity and make your relationship with #AI a positive and symbiotic one! Let’s go! Note: I put #deepdive in quotes as these will probably be arcane knowledge by the time I get fully through them!


Priority 4 - Conversion Rate Optimization and Experiments

Because #experiments are the way to push for continued #optimization and you not only need to know how to do experiments, but also need to create a culture of experimentation (and space/time for that experimentation) in your org. One thing I haven’t seen is a super clean testing management platform out there with #multivariatetesting and cross-channel intra-stack experimentation. Tons of tracking spreadsheets and workbooks (a really good one from Jason Widup ), but nothing that actually manages testing across channels and disparate points in the funnel - though I bet Toni Hohlbein and Growblocks has something brewing on this. Let me know if you know of something!


Priority 5 - Content and Social Tools Updates

I mean, c’mon… This is one of the main reasons I became a marketer in the first place. Learning Adobe Creative Suite (yep, CS1!) was one of the joys of my being a DJ and nightclub promoter in the East Bay in the early 2000s. There are faster and more #efficient ways to get #content designed and done now and I gotta learn’em, if only to manage and direct others in using them. However, anybody who knows me, knows that a true #operator should be able to do (able to - at least get done - not required to do or be the best at…) at least 50% of the work that you manage if not preferably all of it YOURSELF, so I’m on it!


Priority 6 - Influence and Personal Brand Updates?

Because we all need to be better at this while not sacrificing our core work output. It’s also a key part of #outbounding, sales execution, and just being a solid resource and professional colleague in today’s environment. This is especially so in a #leadership role since (IMHO) YOU are a core part of your company’s #brand at the VP and C-Level, and can and should contribute to it at every level throughout your career! PS - I'm fully applying caveat emptor on some of the crazy titles - they're a bit over the top!


Priority 7 - Data Visualization - #Tableau Refreshers

I did the full 5-Day Tableau #Bootcamp from Salesforce during my last round of #recruiting just before joining MadKudu and honestly it’s super-RAD. I still have my notes and the workbooks saved from it, but these Udemy courses look pretty awesome. Having solidly agreed upon #KPIs, #definitions, #visualization and tracking across your #funnel on appropriate intervals is critical! And, if you’re going to stare at graphs, tables, charts and numbers all day long, might as well make them as pretty as possible!
