“GO TO THEM”

“GO TO THEM”

How many relationships have been damaged or lost merely due to lack of communication? Misunderstandings can destroy quickly what was built over time.? Maybe something said was taken out of context. Instead of asking for a clarification, the offended one just decides to turn their back on the relationship. Sometimes, people will do or say things without realizing they have caused an offense in another. If it is never brought to their attention, how are they to know?

Christians are also told to call their brothers and sisters on their sins. Of course, this is to be done with humility and love. This is one reason why it is imperative to build trusting relationships within the church. If you come to me and point out a sin in my life, I will know it is coming from a position of love and not judgement. Paul put it like this in Galatians 6:1- Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.

Confrontation is hard. Most people will do whatever they have to in order to avoid it. When it comes to confronting someone about their sin, it is difficult because we know that we also sin, and if I point out your sin, you might be quick to point out mine. Not that this is all bad. It could be beneficial to both parties if we both have a heart for God.

The Bible gives us instructions on dealing with one another. No where are we told it will be easy. It is amazing though, that if we would just do things God’s way, most of our troubles would disappear. ?Jesus told us in Matthew 5:23, 24 to reconcile with our brother, then go worship. How many people try to worship God while harboring ill feelings toward a brother? It cannot be done.? John says in I John 4:20- ?If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. God wants us to break down the barriers that are between us. We cannot be united with God if we are not united with one another!

If there are issues between brothers, the answer is simple, go to them!
