GO Station transformations

GO Station transformations

As we continue bolstering and transforming transit, some familiar stops are getting a facelift. Starting with Exhibition GO Station – one of the oldest stations across the entire region. Since its construction in 1856, the station has seen its share of transformative changes and updates, and we’re adding another chapter to its ongoing history.??

Part of the ongoing Ontario Line work includes the construction of a brand-new subway stop at Exhibition GO Station. Once fully built, commuters can connect to the 15.6-kilometre subway line from this vital Lakeshore West stop.??

But you won’t need to slow your journey during construction. In fact, we’ve made it easier than ever to get around the station with features like a new north entrance on Atlantic Avenue, a walking bridge connecting to the south side, and a fully accessible underground tunnel.??

But Exhibition GO isn’t the only station getting a makeover!?

Eglinton GO Station now features several important accessibility upgrades, as part of our work to expand and improve GO Transit service across the region.??

From accessible tunnels with elevators, barrier free accessible parking service, improved signage and more, these updates are the final part of a two-phase project to improve station accessibility for all passengers. The work also prepares the station to support two-way, all-day service in the future.?

Digital decks?

Public transit is for everyone, but hundreds of thousands of individuals face barriers that can hinder their ability to gain the same level of access to services that many of us rely on in our daily lives. At Metrolinx, we’re continuously working to help remove those barriers.??

One such way is our partnership with Magnusmode, the creator of MagnusCards. It’s a free digital life skills library that can help youth, neurodiverse individuals, newcomers to Canada and more.??

2024 marks the second year of this partnership, and we’ve added even more features to make taking transit as seamless as possible for anyone at any time. In our first year, we created 22 guides (MagnusCards) to help users better navigate transit. This year, we’ve added six more card decks, available in six languages, exploring topics such as trip planning, checking schedules and adding PRESTO cards to mobile wallets. ?

Scheduled in?

Whether you’re new to taking transit or a veteran traveler, the best way to ensure a smooth trip is to plan your trip by checking your bus or train schedule. There are plenty of ways to do that, and depending on your needs, some methods may work better than others.?

We’ve put together a handy guide exploring those scheduling options . Whether you’re a newcomer, tourist, a multi-modal traveler and more, we’re here to help you get where you need to go on time.?

Junction gems?

Taking transit is a convenient, environmentally friendly and quick way to get to and from work. But it’s also a fantastic way to explore interesting neighbourhoods in your city or region.??

Did you know the Manhattan Bridge shares characteristics with another bridge in one of Toronto’s most vibrant neighbourhoods? The Junction, situated near the Davenport Diamond, is as historic as it is special – and the neighbourhood features no shortage of unique structures that display its ongoing history. From one of the city’s last remaining wooden water towers to a heritage library that took inspiration from classical Greek, Roman and Italian architecture, walking through the Junction is almost like walking back in time. Best of all – it’s only minutes from Bloor GO Station. Hop on the train and see for yourself!?

Thank you for reading the Metrolinx Newsletter and have a safe and happy Halloween! (Here’s some of the best spooky season activities that are also transit accessible .)?

Keep an eye out for more transit updates on the Metrolinx LinkedIn and Instagram accounts, or on Metrolinx.com . ?

Congrats!

Metrolinx @phil verster, CEO Metrolinx Why phil verster, CEO Metrolinx is NOT showing up for any photo-op during opening ceremony of these GO Stations, i.e. Eglinton, Milton, Rutherford, etc? Is phil verster slowly Pushed OUT as CEO of Metrolinx? Is Metrolinx ashamed of showing phil verster as it's CEO? Is there any competency issue with phil verster? Regards Siamak Khajehpour, P.Eng.
