Go Micro or go home

Go Micro or go home

Many of us would have skipped this article if it was a 4 minute read instead of 2 minutes. Many of us find ourselves scrolling through social mrdia while watching a movie. Many of us wouldn’t spot the typo in the last sentence. Social media and the digital world are altering our attention spans, and it’s a good thing. We’re turning into a swarm of gold fishes, swimming in an ocean of Micro-Content. I’ve used this term in my previous articles, and here we finally put it under the microscope.

So, what is Micro Content? It is surely a very clunky term for something so simple. Here’s a demonstration:

Micro content is written copy, imagery and/or video content that can be consumed in 10-30 seconds or less.

The end.

Not only does it conveys shreds of information that answers a specific question, but also leaves an impression on the audience in a short period of time, which is extremely necessary for today’s audiences. These may include, but are not limited to, memes, GIF, info graphics or quirky illustrations and one-liners.

Platforms like Facebook, Google, or even LinkedIn give creators an option to present snippets of their long form content, which acts as a fantastic way of leading your audience deeper into the funnel with the short-term goal of helping them learn about your services and the long-term goal of closing deals.

Billions of people are making decisions about brands and products they want in their lives online. The new customers don’t want to spend a lot of time learning about your product. They want to be entertained, in a short amount of time, and then they want to move on. This really forces marketers and brand developers to get to the point sooner and more effectively than ever before. Just to be clear, you won’t sell products or services from micro content. Certain types of micro content may be good for creating calls to action that bring users onto your web page, but for the most part micro content is best for branding and name recognition.
