GO LIVE in Adelaide - Digital Healthcare solution delivers a human touch
MAXM Skate
The global knee surgery recovery device and digital rehab program. Maximising movement, strength & function.
After 10 years of research, development and clinical trials, an SA-made device designed to revolutionalise rehabilitation – MAXM Skate – will today be launched across a number of hospitals in Adelaide.
Developed by leading Orthopaedic Surgeon and former AFL player Dr. Matthew Liptak, the Maxm Skate combines world-first medical engineering with unrivalled communication and data tracking capabilities.
And there’s no other device like it anywhere in the world.
Cost-effective and fully portable, the MaXm Skate device links to an app which, in a world first, allows healthcare professionals to accurately track a patient’s recovery in real time following Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery.
What makes the device unique is that it provides patients with greater control over their at-home rehabilitation and real-time connection with their healthcare professionals.
And it was the power of technology that inspired Dr Liptak to start designing the MaXm solution ten years ago.

?‘Rehabilitation following TKR surgery can be tough going.?I saw this during my time playing sport and through my clinical experience.?For six weeks, a patient is essentially housebound – unable to move around freely, walk or drive.?And because they manage their rehabilitation routine themselves at home, away from the hospital environment with its support network, it can be an isolating experience, a factor which can also impede a patient’s recovery’.?
?Dr Liptak was determined to build a better way.?And he has.
?Clinical trials have found MaXm delivers benefits not only to patients and healthcare professionals, but to hospitals too – something Dr Liptak says was crucial in the MaXm offering.
?'The number of Australians undergoing Total Knee Replacement is set to exceed 170,000 annually by 2030’, Liptak says.?‘A solution like MaXm has the ability to reduce the average hospital stay, delivering significant economic benefits and improving the elective surgery backlog’.
And the future for MaXm looks bright beyond Australian shores.?Globally, there is expected to be a minimum 300% growth in total knee replacement surgeries in years to come, which highlights just how significant the potential global market is for MaXm and its revolutionary solution.
?The MaXm Skate Package including wearable skate and app is listed on the ARTG and will be available for use by patients here in Australia from September 15th, 2022.
