LinkedIn has made several major improvements and upgrades to their mobile apps over the last six months. Last August (2015), I wrote a post called "LinkedIn Mobile Apps To Try Today", but LinkedIn's most recent changes are really requiring me to write a new post. So here we are today. Also, like most of my posts, you will find a SlideShare presentation to complement this article towards the end.
The most significant recent changes for apps include: 1.) Introduction of the LinkedIn Groups app. 2) Upgrade of the main flagship LinkedIn app and 3.) Retirement announcement of the "Connected" app this spring 2016.
Top LinkedIn Mobile apps for 2016:
This new list has incorporated the changes listed above and also has been rearranged for 2016:
1.) LinkedIn. This app has been enhanced and simplified. Go to "Me" for your profile and "Who's Viewed Your Profile" information, a favorite feature. The other tabs are: "Messaging", "My Network", "Search" and "Home." Get your network updates with a quick swipe in the "My Network" tab. Great for a quick view of the network updates you need while you are traveling or on the go. I also love the ability to directly link from this app over to my Sales Navigator or Groups app.
< 2.) LinkedIn Jobs. This app has a great reputation with job seekers. Search for jobs and save your searches, similar to the desktop version. Apply for a job using your LinkedIn profile. You can easily see the jobs you have "viewed", "saved" and "applied" under the Track tab. Here's what the app looks like (on the left).
3.) Pulse. If you love the regular Pulse from LinkedIn, it will make sense to download the app so you can receive all the posts and articles you wish while you are on the road. I appreciate being able to view and access the publishers list and posts so easily.
4.) Newsle. Wouldn't you love to get the articles written by or about your LinkedIn connections? Newsle will practially "hand deliver" these to you. I have been using it for awhile, and it's a wonderful way to warm up an old contact that has just been quoted in a publication. Share it or send it to her with a link and she will be delighted that you noticed.
5.) LinkedIn Groups. The entire Groups function was reengineered in October of 2015. One of the very best outcomes of that effort is the new Groups app. You can now easily get your Group Highlights on your phone. Your personal groups are also easy to find. Quickly find and review the conversations and new jobs tab within each of your groups.
6.) Elevate. This app is also fairly new. I am just starting to use this with my corporate clients. LinkedIn was so clever to create an app that makes it easier for employees to share company generated content. The concept is a big winner.
7.) Lookup. Super easy and helpful. I signed up
for it, even though I only have a few other co-workers to search for. Of course, I wanted to check it out. I spent many years working at a large corporation, so I can certainly see how handy it would be to have a quick employee lookup on your phone. Imagine going into a meeting with colleagues from your company that you are meeting for the first time. It happens all the time at big companies. And now- Lookup is here! It is a much faster way to find your corporate colleagues. Here is the app set up for my business Post Road Consulting LLC.
8.) Recruiter. Honestly, I have this app on my phone for illustration purposes only. LinkedIn Recruiter is a premium service used by corporations to find top talent. LinkedIn Recruiter rocks! So I am pretty sure the app does too. If you are a recruiter, you should check it out.
9.) Sales Navigator. This is a premium service for sales professionals. Navigator provides LinkedIn customers advanced features to assist sales teams such as advanced prospect identification, deeper search capabilities, and InMail messaging outside of your network. Sales people need to be on the go and in front of prospects and clients, so a Navigator app is a necessity. The app is organized by "Home" for home feed news; "Accounts" for your selected accounts; "Leads" for the selected contacts; and "Messages". The app is organized similarly to the desktop version of Sales Navigator.
10.) Lynda. LinkedIn recently acquired Lynda, which is an online learning platform. We are already seeing more LinkedIn integration with Lynda, just like SlideShare. You may have been one of the millions of LinkedIn users who tried Lynda over the past couple of months. If so, consider downloading the app and learning on the road!
< 11.) SlideShare. Now owned by LinkedIn. You may have started to see the integration with LinkedIn already. The granddaddy site for slide presentations has a lovely app. The mobile app search feature is wonderful and so easy to use. (Here's my mobile SlideShare page above left.)
I am finding more and more of the sales teams that I train for Social Selling are interested in using the various apps. I love to make it easy for them to connect and learn while on the road.
So there you have it, a 2016 updated list of LinkedIn mobile apps. Below is a quick SlideShare presentation about these LinkedIn apps. I hope you will scroll through and enjoy this presentation- and then come back to like or comment on the post below.
Thanks for reading the post and viewing the SlideShare deck. Please let me know in the blog comments below: Which app is your favorite and why?
