?? 1. Check your ad strength scores
First things first — to improve your ad strength scores, you need to know what they are. Google ad strength scores range from Poor to Excellent and include optimization recommendations for those with low scores.
To kick off your optimization spree, look at your ad rankings by going to your Ads dashboard. There, you’ll see an Ad strength column showing the rankings of each of your ads. Click on your Poor and Average ads and apply Google’s suggestions for improvement. Once you’ve implemented those changes, you can continue improving to maximize your campaign results.

“If you manage a construction business that does new home builds and renovations, you may want to group ads for each of those areas of your business separately. While they’re both services you offer, the target audiences and keywords are different. This structure will help you choose the most relevant keywords and create ads that match each audience’s search intent.”
??? 3. Track your conversions
Conversion tracking is another great way to maximize the performance of your search ads. It helps you understand what works best for your campaigns via real-time data.
With this knowledge, you’ll know when to pull back or double down on your campaign. Plus, Google Ads can use this data to refine your bidding and maximize your budget.
? 4. Don’t forget about additional assets
Formerly known as ad extensions , additional assets are quite literally assets to your campaign. Use them to add some extra razzle-dazzle to your ads so they take up more real estate in search results and leave less room for your competitors. And the best part? They don’t cost extra for your campaign!
?? 5. Use negative keywords
We’re pretty positive you’ll love this next tip, which is all about being negative. Negative keywords prevent your ads from showing up for certain search terms.
“Let’s say your construction company wanted to run an ad for residential kitchen renovations, but you notice that the ad has appeared for commercial kitchen searches. You can add commercial kitchen renovation to your negative keywords list and avoid paying for those searches. That’s more money you can spend on relevant searches.”?
???? 6. Test, test, and test some more
You’ve likely heard this last tip before if you’ve read any of our other newsletters, but it bears repeating — test your ads , test them some more, and then test them again. Test. Test. Test.
Google Ads’ Experiments allows you to test your campaigns based on factors like bid strategy, ad copy, and more. By regularly testing your ads, you can stay on top of what’s working with your campaigns and what isn’t, and you’ll have a working knowledge of how to take your ads to the next level and maximize your results. Who doesn’t want that?!
