Regardless of the road you are on, you and your team will get run over if everyone is standing still.?Hence, the executive team must be very clear on what direction to go.
Starting, managing and growing a business is the darndest thing.?When momentum is building, customers are increasing and cash is beginning to flow, founder/CEOs begin to yearn for the day when life becomes more manageable.?They desire for the time when strong and capable employees can be hired to take on the seemingly endless tasks that can’t be handled by a single person.?
Then the company “arrives” at that pivotal point, new hires are onboarded, tasks assigned yet the chaos continues.?The CEO founder struggles to get the key employees to do things the way the owner wants them done.?Why the confusion??What is so hard to understand??Why don’t others share the same level of passion the owner queries in their own mind.?The founder believes once $X in revenues are achieved, all the problems will melt away and life will become easy.
Nope, as a business grows, new problems appear.?Sure, it’s great to have some cash in the bank, but new challenges always arise.?More capital may be needed for future growth.?The team that got the business “here” will likely not be the right people to get the business “there.”?New systems and processes must be implemented.?Accountabilities must be clearly defined.?Compensation plans must be thoughtfully created to align with clarified responsibilities.?Strategies must be built.?Operational disciplines must be implemented.?Decisions must be made.
The topline begins to flatten or decline.?Profits are eroded.?Customers are not as excited or worse, a competitor begins to gain share.?Payroll is too fat.?Performance is too thin.?Leadership is faced with new problems.?Unfortunately, new approaches to solving these problems are not being proactively considered.?Payments to lenders becomes more pressing.?Now the “fun” really begins.
How consciously, and I mean consciously, aware are you of the issues facing your business??How well do you fully understand your company’s preventable problems??Doing what has always been done with the same team is likely to create more pain vs. more profits.?
The current economy may be entering some really trying times.?Katrina is coming.?The signs are clear.?Are you ready??Are the plans in place??Are actions being taken?
