Context & Introduction about the book

Dr. Arun Sacher and I came together to speak at an Industry Seminar way back in 2008. While we both remained busy in our own individual pursuits, Dr. Sacher in Academia and I continued to deepen my expertise in Human Resources Area in Industry

One fine day, the year 2019, we met again at an Industry event and went out for a coffee and deliberated about the progress in the Industry & Academia and felt that while a lot was being done in this area, there was still a need to do more quality work. We felt that there is a strong need of collaboration of industry and academia to think out of box and explore new dimensions of learning. 

That is where the thought of having a partnership between an Industry & Academia expert germinated and we met once again to discuss the same. This is how the idea of writing a book together took shape. 

The decision we took was to write about our experiences and see how this shapes up as thinking process and an approach towards actions which differs in academia & corporate world. 

Gradually, as the manuscript started to take shape, we dwelled over the question – Why do we need this book? There are so many books in the Leadership space, how this is going to be different? What is the USP of this book? 

Why this book?

Most of the Researchers and Developmental Psychologists across the globe have conducted various research and clinical experiments to understand the basic essence of leadership i.e. leader’s philosophy, management styles and the basic personality.

No leader can be authentic by trying to imitate the style of someone else. You can definitely learn from other’s experiences, but there is no guarantee that success will come to you if you are trying to copy or be like the successful leaders. 

People trust you only when you are authentic and genuine, not if you are a replica of someone else.

After many years of research, it has been found that what differentiates the success of leaders are their internal logical thinking followed by appropriate actions and how they interpret and react when their power or safety is challenged.

In fact, leaders, who have better understanding of their own ‘self’ can, not only transform their own abilities and capabilities, but also those of their own companies. It is important to understand what type of leader you are.

Are you an opportunist, a diplomat, an expert, an achiever, an individualist, a strategist or any other type. 

It is imperative for leaders to change or alter their logical thinking and action orientation and experiment with new interpersonal behaviours, develop new kind of relationships and take advantage of various available work opportunities.

A leader’s development span is not an easy one. Some leaders change very little in their lifetime while others change substantially. If Adolf Hitler had decided to change himself, future of Germany could have been very different. If Jack Welch had been very rigid and had opposed the change, he might not have created business diversifications for General Electric and GE could not have reached to the level, he took them to, during his tenure

The above deliberations led us to believe that it would help if we could provide a short guide that will provide leaders with models that will help them unshackle the usual patterns to enhance their overall effectiveness while building their own unique brand.
