Go with the Flo...
My Dad nicknamed this tractor “Old Florence.” Florence was my maiden aunt who farmed with Grandpa. After he passed away she continued to farm the 240 acres on her own throughout the sixties and seventies. She was partially deaf and had lost parts of six fingers but she kept the farm going for Grandma. I can remember Florence sitting me on her lap and letting me “drive” this tractor out to the sweet corn patch.
This 1949 Farmall H was Grandpa’s and he passed it down to her. I bought it from Florence when she moved off the farm in 1985. It still worked on the farm running an auger until 2000. I took a power washer to it recently and managed to expose more rust than red paint.
Bucket list #49- "Leave a piece of history in better shape than you found it." A hundred hours of labor later and probably more money than what she’s worth- "Old Florence shines again!" It's not always about the money…
