Go an extra mile to achieve enhanced employee engagement

Recently, I came across a series of #LinkedInposts where a bunch of employees were discussing a concerning trend. It was about how the workplace focus is increasingly centered solely on work, with little or no attention given to other important aspects!

This post is therefore directed toward my fellow #HRleaders, #CHROs and colleagues in senior management roles. We must address these issues by prioritizing the cultivation of robust employee engagement. Such engagement directly influences organizational success by enhancing retention rates and boosting productivity.

Below are my top 5 mantras on how we (HR leaders) can employ and enhance employee engagement:

1.?????? Optimize communication: Direct and transparent communication helps in building trust among employees. It is an important factor in promoting employee engagement. All HR leaders must keep the communication channel open and accessible so that employees can share feedback, concerns, or suggestions.

2.?????? Build a culture of feedback: HR managers must strive to build a robust two-way feedback system wherein both managers and employees can share their opinions. The team leaders or the managers can provide constructive feedback on employees' strengths, performance, and areas of weakness or improvement. Additionally, getting feedback from the employees about their challenges, suggestions, and experiences can demonstrate employee engagement and your commitment to continuous improvement.

3.?????? Strike a strong manager-employee bond: The bond HR leaders have with the employees significantly impacts job satisfaction and engagement. On our end, we must strive to influence other managers to effectively lead their teams and provide training and resources for coaching, performance management, conflict resolution, and effective communication.

4.?????? Offer avenues for professional development: If you wish to showcase your commitment to employee growth, provide them with key opportunities for skill development. When you invest in employees' future and their career advancement, they feel more responsible towards their work. Furthermore, they readily put those extra effort to achieve both personal and organizational goals. All HR leaders can arrange for initiatives like tuition reimbursement, mentorship programs, or training workshops.

5.?????? Recognize and reward achievements: Last but probably the one I feel resonates the most with all young employees! Acknowledging employee contributions and achievements has become crucial and the best morale booster. It is up to each of us (HR leaders) how we go about rewarding deserving employees. Some of my top picks to reinforce positive outcomes and behaviors are performance-based bonuses, peer recognition, and employee of the month awards.

Lastly, if you truly want to tap into the benefits of employee engagement closely monitor your initiatives or mechanisms. Evaluate the efficiency of engagement initiatives and identify the areas of improvement. Ultimately, remember we all HR leaders have the power to make informed decisions that will strengthen employee engagement and retention.

Drop in your suggestions, views, and other efforts for enhanced employee engagement.
