Go Discover Something New!

Constant travel can be exhausting, but it provides great perspective. You never return home the same.

I spent a year living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. One of my good friends was named Ahmed. He lived right across the street. At first it seemed we had absolutely nothing in common. Our cultural backgrounds, family upbringing, religious beliefs, the way we dressed, the foods we ate, just about everything in our lives was completely different.

But in the end, it didn't matter how many things were different. When it came to the most important things in life, we're all basically the same. We want to live a fulfilling life, provide our children with a promising future, and end our journey with no regrets.

All the many things that Ahmed and I didn't have in common just made our friendship more interesting.

Our common humanity unites us. Our diversity makes us beautiful.

It's so much more fun to celebrate our differences than to fight over them.

One of my favorite quotes from the late Anthony Bourdain:

“Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks your heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes you; it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you. Hopefully, you leave something good behind.” – Anthony Bourdain
