GM's Insurance Struggles and Legal Battles for Personal Line Insurers

News Brief: GM Insurance Struggles, a Nick Nolte Lawsuit, the Neighbor from Hell

General Motors?said its auto insurance would be a game changer, with better rates and an unparalleled customer experience. Four years after launch, however, the automaker is?struggling to find its footing. Turns out auto insurance isn't so easy after all.

In a classic case of he said-she said,?Allstate?has asked a California court to?dismiss a lawsuit?against it from actor?Nick Nolte?and his wife, asserting the couple wildly overstated damage claims to their Malibu, Calif., home from the 2018 Woolsey fire.

In a separate case, Allstate has asked a federal judge in Oregon to declare it does not have to?defend a policyholder?being sued for harassing his neighbors by, among other things, shining the high-beam headlights of his truck into their bedroom and using remote devices to interfere with their wi-fi reception.

State Farm?has?gone on the offensive?in defending its business practices in California, publishing a blog post explaining its position and demystifying what it said were myths.
