Gmail : Advanced Protection Program
V Sridhar Subramaniam
User Interfaces have been a focus area. Technology has been a passion. Self confessed Geek.
Earlier this week, I came across a Forbes article talking about an Advanced Protection Program for Gmail.
I thought I had already seen account security and green ticks on my phone and browser Google Account management. It turns out that there is an additional opt-in security that you can give to your Gmail account.
This is where you need to enrol your account into advanced protection. Earlier, this feature was not available to the general public in the sense that it needed an extra hardware token device. Now, with the advent of generic passkey support, this is available to all devices that support a passkey.
For the developers on their test device, enabling advanced security "disallows" installing an app from a local APK file. But then again, you should not be using an active personal account on a test device as the developer mode in general reduces the security permissions to allow more inspects over the wire.
