Glove Coatings...The Future has arrived!

Over the last two decades there has been a generational shift away from traditional glove coatings, namely PVC, latex and thick nitrile. The evolution towards polyurethane coatings gathered pace as this new compound had the ability to provide a general purpose or safety glove with a strong coating whilst affording an increased level of dexterity.

Glove dipping subsequently became a technical art, as manufacturers like ourselves strived to produce gloves with comfort and tactile properties, whilst finding the correct balance of strength and performance.

Then the bomb hit!

Research showed that polyurethane had an inherent solvent called dimethylformamide, medically linked to ill health from over exposure.

Safe occupational levels had to be enforced onto the Global glove production industry, achieved through high investment into filtration and washing systems.

During this period, heavy research had been accelerated into alternative compounds that were capable of providing similar, if not enhanced performance benefits in comparison to polyurethane.

Nitrile foam derivatives were subsequently born. Excellent alternatives, capable of good levels of wet and dry grip, although a more expensive solution. The nitrile compound was textured with air or chemical to give a glove surface that worked on liquid dispersion, in a similar way to the tread on a car tyre.

The downside was dexterity, as nitrile did not quite have the ability to replicate the low dimension of polyurethane.

Further development lead to nitrile micro-foam, a highly textured thinner product giving a high degree of flexibility and comfort together with excellent abrasive properties therefore elongating the lifespan of the glove.

Most Global manufacturers have moved towards this type of model, hugely increasing capacity and output whilst polyurethane production continues to decline.

In mid 2024 we will be launching the next generation of coated technology, a pinnacle invention that is 10% lighter than standard nitrile micro-foam, 25% more durable, eco-friendly, free of solvents, with the most incredible fit, feel and comfort.

We will lead the evolution, but more importantly provide the hand protection market with a product that gives eutopia.
