Glory days ...
Aligned to topics: mental health, priority setting

I cannot believe it is the middle of the month already – for me in the USA South, spring is in full bloom (as is my allergies) – everything has a sheen of yellow on it. Since I last wrote to you all it feels like a lifetime has passed. YAY – I got my first Covid shot, and the second one yesterday, my work/life balance got thrown into a downward spiral, and received personal news about a close friend that made me very sad, so in turn, everything became a perfect storm.
Realizing I was nearing a “failure to cope” moment, I spoke to my direct supervisor and took 2 days off last week and let them, and others know I was taking time for my mental health. One thing I realized is that leadership is extremely aware that this was not just something I am dealing with, but everyone! Why am I telling you this?
Be transparent with your leadership on how you are feeling, they are here to help you manage priorities and workloads

If you feel you are nearing a “failure to cope” moment as I was, let leadership know and empower yourself to take the time you need, and congratulate yourself on recognizing this and putting yourself first
So, that said look after yourselves, get your Covid shots when available to you, and make sure you are always communicating to your leadership/people leads/supervisors how you feel.
Now, all of this has made me miss some of my glory days (carefree and wild with fun) – sharing a picture of me (YES, I went platinum blonde for a hot minute) on a night out where I just HAD to pose for a pic with the captain (after a day in the sun without sunscreen apparently)!
It was the right thing to do and like many, I admire you for being so honest. It is not a “failure to cope”, it is having the strength or resilience to pause and reset. We all need that at some point. There's no failure in that at all.

2 年Great to see this, Kim. Thanks for sharing your story :)
Great advice, Kim! It's so critical (and so mutually beneficial) when your employer realizes your worth enough to allow you time to retool.
