Globewomen at Women's March on Washington
Irene Natividad
President, Global Summit of Women and Chair, Corporate Women Directors International
I was so proud and uplifted by the thousands of women who marched on Saturday, January 21st, in every state of the United States and in over 60 countries. In solidarity, they showed their numbers worldwide now estimated from between 2.3 to 4 million strong. Here in my home town, Washington, DC, over a half million women and the men who support us marched in unity to show a new administration that 'women's rights are human rights.' There are times when we have to show bodily that there's strength in numbers. Here's what the Washington March looked like and some photos as I waited for other members of our group to join us early in a cold morning. Later on, stars like Cher, Alicia Keys, Madonna, Ashley Judd, America Ferrera, among others revved up the crowd of half a million multiracial, multi-generational joyful people. Frankly, the real stars were the women who linked arms across borders to make a statement about their rights for which they are committed to continue to fight. I came home exhausted, but inspired by this day of national and global unity and hope.
