Globally: 4 in 10 Believe Science Benefits Them

The Wellcome Global Monitor is the world’s largest study into how people around the world think and feel about science and major health challenges. It surveys over 140,000 people from more than 140 countries and was conducted as part of the Gallup World Poll in 2018.

People's impressions of the importance of science as well as their knowledge and trust in scientists varied widely. Globally, 72% of people have a medium to high level of trust in scientists, but only 4 in 10 believe that funding science personally benefited them.

With respect to their government, most people trust science more.
