Globalization and Localization Association (GALA)
3 years: A wonderful time on the GALA Board!
When I run for the GALA Board late 2012, I wanted to contribute to GALA with my passion and energy to help the association not only grow, but also, and especially, be better. We all need to increase the value (and power) of the language in the (business) world.
In 2012, I was elected only for one year, since I was replacing Gary, who had resigned from the Board due to personal reasons. During my first term, I got to know the staff, the Board, and GALA much better, and started to do some things related to membership, such as the regular calls to members we started. However, 12 months is really a short time if you really want to do something! And luckily, members reelected me for 2 years (2014 and 2015).
This time of the year makes you feel a little bit nostalgic, so I am reading again my personal statements (2012 and 2013). I am proud to say that GALA has advanced so much during these 3 years! And this has been achieved thanks to the huge effort of the staff, all the volunteers from member companies who are continuously making this association better, and the Board, among others. Thanks to everyone.
We have more members than we had in early 2013, and those include many translation buyers. If you want to improve the industry, it is essential to include all stakeholders in the industry, so GALA has well advanced into that direction. In particular, the changes in the bylaws to make every member equal has been the last achievement this year. And as you can see, the annual conference in New York, will host many interesting topics for translation buyers too! Please spread the word and I hope to meet you there.
We have launched this year the new GALA platform, which you can feel with the new website, which is only the visible part. However, it means much more than that, it is the foundation to build a better organization in the future. The platform will help increase the desktop value, so that GALA members can achieve an optimum return on their investment even if they cannot attend the GALA annual conference. One of the key assets from GALA is the training on GALA onDemand, which can be accessed by all the staff from member companies! Spend some time every day on the website, and you will become a better language professional.
My time within the GALA Board is coming to an end, but I feel that GALA has a bright future! Thanks to all who are part of our GALA.
Enjoy these days with your family and friends, and let's make 2016 our best year ever.
