GlobalCinema.online is celebrating the success of filmmakers Jordan River and Davide De Stefano

It gives us great pleasure to introduce two exceptional filmmakers whose careers and body of work are outstanding and merit recognition.

Film director Jordan River

Jordan River has two of his films in distribution with Global Cinema Online and streaming on our channel. One of the films, Artemisia Gentileschi—Warrior Painter, was awarded Best Feature Docudrama at our festival, the Global Nonviolent Film Festival, in 2020 and nominated for the David di Donatello in 2021.

In 2024, Jordan has produced and directed the critically acclaimed feature film Joachim and the Apocalypse (Il Monaco che vinse l’Apocalisse). The film has already won numerous awards at some of the most important film festivals, including Best Picture at the 78th Salerno International Film Festival and at the 20th Terni International Film Festival. Joachim and the Apocalypse is now screening in cinemas in Italy nationwide, and it is in contention at the David di Donatello Awards given out each year by the Accademia del Cinema Italiano.

Jordan is considered one of the pioneers of three-dimensional cinema in Italy, of which he was also a lecturer at the University of Cinema in Rome. In 2012 he made Apollineum 3D, the first Italian 3D documentary. He is the author of several publications on the subject, such as 3D Stereoscopico (2012) and Communicating in 3D (2014). He also produced and directed Goth-Amok: Gamebook Adventure.

His major works include the documentaries The Origins of Cinematography, Caravaggio, The Power of Light, Stonehenge, The Temple of the Druids, and Dance: The Audition.

In this newsletter, we present two of Jordan’s films—Artemisia Gentileschi and Dance, The Audition—that can be watched on our channel.

Art director Davide De Stefano

Davide De Stefano won the Best Art Director award for Joachim and the Apocalypse at the 20th Terni International Film Festival. Davide is tapped to be the art director for the upcoming mega-film project The Trilogy (working title)—written and directed by Bruno Pischiutta and produced by Global Film Studio.

Davide De Stefano is known for his work in films such as Voice from the Stone—starring Emilia Clarke and released in the US, Canada, and throughout Europe; The Cursed Ones—awarded Best Production Design at the African Movie Academy Award (AMAA-African Oscar); The Nativity Story—directed by Catherine Hardwicke; and Back—directed by Carlos Saura, to name just a few.

In his extensive career, he worked with many renowned directors such as Carlo Lizzani, Pupi Avati, Francesca Archibugi, Dario Argento, Roberto Faenza, Maurizio Nichetti, Lamberto Bava, Ricky Tognazzi, Paolo Virzì, Peter Greenaway, Catherine Hardwicke, Kim Manners, Greg Yaitanes, John Gray, Zeke Pinheiro, Mark Roemmich, Nana Obiri, and Eric Howell.

In 1618, at the age of 23, Artemisia became the first Italian female artist to get international recognition. She came in touch with the most brilliant minds of her time, including Caravaggio.

The film recalls her life. She is recognized as a modern feminist icon, due to her personality and the unyielding defense of her professional integrity, documented in the letters she wrote to art collectors and other eminent figures of her time, like Galileo Galilei.

Artemisia’s fame is also tied to the rape trial she started against a colleague, Agostino Tassi. She survived the experience thanks to her moral strength and, through her painting, succeeded as a woman and as an artist, producing masterpieces that can touch the heart and soul of audiences who admire them four hundred years later.
