Global warming: A looming threat
With the advancement in technology, industries flourishing, and economies blooming, global warming is a looming threat. Global warming is a long term rise in the average of the earth’s climatic system. The intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC), stated that human influence is the main cause of global warming since the mid-20th century. The emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon monoxide, methane, and nitrous oxide results in extreme weather conditions like; heatwaves, more snow, rainfall, droughts, and wildfires, glaciers melting, sea levels rising, and oceans acidifying.
Climate change can destroy within entire ecosystems and play havoc with our lives. It could lead to the extinction of the human race. United Nations of Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) is a body which has brought countries together and they consented that cuts are required in greenhouse emissions. In the Kyoto Protocol in 2005, Unite Stats rejected the treaty on the pretext that developing countries are left out (India and China)
To save our planet from calamity, we need to adopt certain measures. Citizens can choose public transport or carpool. Recycling should be carried out. Governments should dispose of industrial waste, plant more trees and use renewable energy. As individuals we owe it to our future generations to give them a world they would thrive in and not choke.
