In 2020, the World Tourism Forum Institute rebranded its events as the Global Tourism Forum, marking a new era of international collaboration. The inaugural Annual Meeting was held in Istanbul, Turkey, at the ??ra?an Palace on November 27, 2020. This event brought together international tourism professionals and sector representatives to focus on global tourism development, economic growth, foreign investment, sustainability, and human resources.
2021-2022: Expansion and Thematic Summits
Building on its initial success, GTF expanded its reach by organizing thematic summits and regional meetings. In 2022, the Annual Meeting took place in Indonesia, positioning it as Asia-Pacific's largest tourism event. This gathering united key players from tourism and related industries, including politicians, digital influencers, investors, and experts, to reshape the industry's future.
2023: Embracing Innovation and Technology
The 2023 Annual Meeting was hosted in Brussels, Belgium, on September 5th, under the theme "Investment, Connectivity, and Hospitality." This event emphasized the importance of innovation and technology in the tourism sector, featuring discussions on blockchain applications in travel and the development of the "Tourismverse," a virtual neighborhood hosted on The Sandbox platform.

2024: Focus on Sustainability and Future Planning
In December 2024, GTF returned to Brussels for its Annual Meeting themed "Peace, Resilience, and Humanity." The forum attracted global leaders, industry experts, and academics to deliberate on sustainable tourism practices and the sector's future. Key discussions included transforming the tourism industry with artificial intelligence and digital solutions, sustainable tourism development, and investment in infrastructure.
2025: World Travel Week and Future Outlook
Looking ahead, GTF has announced the World Travel Week 2025, scheduled to be held in Brussels. This ambitious event aims to host over 5,000 participants in a 10,000-square-meter space at the Brussels Expo, fostering innovation, investment, and cultural exchange among global delegates.
Over the past five years, the Global Tourism Forum has played a pivotal role in addressing the evolving challenges of the tourism industry.
