President Biden’s Foreign Policy Report Card on Africa (Part 1)

The Biden Administration has made it clear its intent to improve U.S. -Africa relations through the 2022 U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit and, most recently, Vice President Kamala Harris’ trip to Africa. But how has U.S. foreign policy impacted critical issues on trade, business, democracy, and human rights? What role does the African diaspora play in advancing U.S. foreign policy on the continent? Alexanderia B. Haidara Haidara discusses these questions and more with special guests? Dr. Nola Haynes and Nii Simmonds .?

Dr. Nola Haynes is an academic, policy writer, and advocate recognized as one of the top 50 national security and foreign policy leaders and holds several key positions promoting diversity in international affairs. She currently serves as an adjunct professor at 美国乔治敦大学 and is a proud BPIA member.

Nii Simmonds is a leading expert within contemporary economics and international trade that has worked with organizations such as the World Bank Group , IFC - International Finance Corporation , and African Development Bank Group . He is a nonresident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council GeoTech Center and an expert in emerging and frontier markets. He has held top leadership positions in corporate finance, entrepreneurial ecosystems, supply chains, and research commercialization. Simmonds has previously worked for Fortune 500 firms, including companies in the pharmaceutical, biotech, consumer product, and strategy consulting industries.

The 2021 Haitian migration crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border shows continued unequal treatment of Black migrants by the U.S. government. The United States has had a long history of supporting rogue governments and leaders in Haiti. In this episode, Alexanderia B. Haidara discusses the past, the present, and the future of U.S.-Haitian relations with Miami Herald journalist, Jacqueline Charles . Listen as they dive into President Biden’s immigration policies, investigations of U.S. Border Patrol agents, and the financial entanglement of the Haitian elite.?

There is no end to the impressive career of? Jacqueline Charles . She is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and Emmy Award-winning Caribbean correspondent at the? Miami Herald whose journalism assignments have taken her around the world from Kenya to Italy to Chile and beyond. Additionally, she is a founding member of the Carolina Association of Black Journalists affiliated with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) , and also serves as the president and chairwoman of the South Florida Black Journalists Association. She broke the news of Haitian President René Préval’s survival of the devastating earthquake and spent 18 months living in Haiti following the event.
