GSSport 2024: Accelerating sustainability through sport

According to research by Global Sustainable Sport (GSS) , over 800 sports organisations are actively developing their sustainability strategies, but less than 10% of these have a comprehensive strategy that covers all aspects of sports sustainability. Sport is undervaluing its sustainability value and missing opportunities to maximise its impact and outcomes.

Sport needs a broad framework to describe its sustainable value.

GSS 's?new accelerator programme, GSSport 2024 ,?aims to assist stakeholders from across?the sports industry in developing sustainability strategies?and improving their social, environmental and commercial outcomes.

GSSport 2024 will offer a series of online workshops covering the 7 Sustainable Pillars of Sport and Purpose, developed by GSS , followed by an in-person congress in Munich on?June 26-27, during UEFA Euro 2024.

Register for GSSport 2024 today and join the 800+ organisations that are driving sustainability around the world, and help deliver a more sustainable future for sport and the planet.

An 'early-bird' congress registration rate of €695 is offered until?30?April?2024.? Rates for the online workshops and the congress are available through the online registration form, which you can access here .

Is sport protecting nature and biodiversity?

On Monday, millions of people across the world will celebrate #EarthDay , an annual event that highlights the importance of protecting the #environment .

Preserving #nature and #biodiversity is a key part of protecting the environment. While measuring the impact of our carbon emissions is a critical part of the fight against climate change, we also need to understand our impact on the nature and environment around us.

The sport industry in particular has a huge role to play in protecting nature. Many sports, from skiing to canoeing to swimming, reap the benefits of the natural world – but can also have huge and damaging impacts.

How the Australian Grand Prix Corporation is leading the sustainability race

How the Australian Grand Prix Corporation is leading the sustainability raceMajor sporting events come to fruition thanks to an ecosystem of organisations, with each player a cog in a much larger machine.

So, when you don’t have control over every single aspect in an event’s organisation, how do you truly weave #sustainability into your operations and areas in which you do?

The Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix is set to return as the sport’s season opener from next year, welcoming almost half a million motorsport fans across four days of action.

After the COVID-19 pandemic foiled 2020’s event and 2021’s race was cancelled for the same reason, Formula 1 fans have returned to Albert Park in Melbourne in their droves. For the third year in a row, last month’s Australian Grand Prix welcomed a record-breaking attendance, this time attracting 452,055.

Curating and building an event that is set to welcome a crowd of this magnitude can present some challenges – and this is even more significant when the Australian Grand Prix’s location is a temporary street track.?However, it also presents the opportunity to be creative.

Sarah Lowe , AGPC's Sustainability Manager, explains some of the initiatives implemented for the Formula 1 Grand Prix and #MotoGP events in #Australia .

Thank a lot Mike for Another great Newsletter?? still too many “ redemptive” actions because “we” appear unable to genuinly adapt to the fundamentally already Altered Nature and Changed Climate. “we” can/ must do better . still A very “Uncomfortable Truth”. Adapt without ( fundamental ) Change in Sports appears to be an Illusion.
