Global Shipping Services, Houston & Trans Auriga, Germany Moving 97 Units of O&G Reels - 2900 CBM / 875 Tons from Europe to US

Over the past two months, the team at Global Shipping Services – Houston project office, has been working on a large volume of Reels with umbilical lines for an offshore Oil and Gas project in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) operated by BHP/Woodside. (Umbilicals?link surface and seafloor oil and gas equipment for controls, power, or heat.)

The trucking from the manufacturing plant in Central Europe to the port took two months due to the volume of reels and the road permit issues and load-out scheduling. ?After delivery to Brake Port, Germany (near Bremen) the reels were surveyed by a Marine Warranty Surveyor, and we had to re-secure all the tarps that had come loose during the truck transportation to the port. Fortunately, all reels were in excellent condition.

Vessel: ?Star Dalmatia

Carrier: G2 Ocean

Inducement into Panama City, Florida to the customer’s own dock, from where they will be transferred to the customer’s own supply vessel for delivery out to the oil rig.

Cargo:

64 reels @ 1,914 cbm / 584,000kgs / 1,287,486lbs

And 33 reels @ 997 cbm / 291,000kgs / 641,538lbs

Totals: 97 reels @ 2,911 cbm / 875,000kgs / 1,929,025lbs

This is a very high-profile shipment for our customer, and for their customer BHP / Woodside. As the umbilicals (reels) are required offshore urgently for the Trion project for BP;?to say we were a little stressed out would be a huge understatement.

Located?approximately 180km off the Mexican coastline and 30km south of the US/Mexico maritime border, the Trion field lies at a water depth of around 2,500m.? The subsea oil field is estimated to yield around 479 million barrels of oil equivalent.?The cost of developing the Trion field is estimated at $ 7.3 Billion.

We partnered with our WCA Projects partner Trans Auriga on this shipment. The service, coordination and updates from Fooke Becker and Jana Seidel were awesome. Truly 24/7 updates. Trans Auriga contact: Fooke Becker <[email protected]>.
