Global Reads - coronavirus: what's next?
Welcome back to my Global Reads. As the coronavirus outbreak continues to impact economies and communities, some nations are further along the change curve than others.
This week was an especially exciting one. After recently travelling back from the US, I am being released from my 14 day mandatory quarantine here in Hong Kong (fear not, my health is OK!). After two weeks stuck inside, I began to wonder what life was like again outside. What is for certain, is that events continue to evolve at breakneck speed, even in that short space of time I’ve been indoors.
What does a new post-pandemic world start to look like? With the disease still raging in many countries, how can people approach the world of work safely again? This week’s story selections delve into some of those difficult issues. I’m keen to hear how about the next phase of this crisis from your perspective. Stay safe and do keep in touch.
Harvard Business Review - You’ve been furloughed, now what? The sages at HBR have some invaluable thoughts on what to do next if you or someone you know has been furloughed during this crisis.
Wall Street Journal - You might already have seen some of these in action if you live in Asia. WSJ paints a picture of how we’re likely to work, eat and fly as restrictions ease in some countries.
Financial Times - With a lot of energy focused on coronavirus, the FT sounds a warning that government spending on renewable energy is falling. This means missed targets and a potential renaissance for coal in some countries.
