Global power industry tenders in Q4 2020: Thermal technology down 19%

Thermal technology tenders activity in Q4 2020 saw 394 tenders announced, marking a drop of 19% over the last four-quarter average of 484, according to GlobalData’s power industry tenders database.
Oil was the top category in thermal technology in terms of number of tenders for the quarter, accounting for 307 tenders and a 77.5% share, followed by Coal with 52 tenders and a 13.1% share. Gas stood in third place with 37 tenders and a 9.3% share.
Looking at global power tenders activity divided by the type of technology, thermal held the second position in terms of number of tenders during Q4 2020 with a 42.1% share.
The proportion of tenders by category in the Thermal technology tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 266 tenders and a 67.5% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: 115 tenders and a 29.2% share
- Project Implementation: nine tenders and a 2.3% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: three tenders and a 0.8% share
- Electricity Supply: one tender and a 0.3% share.
North America leads thermal tenders activity in Q4 2020
Comparing tenders activity in thermal technology in different regions of the globe, North America held the top position with 220 tenders and a share of 55.8% during Q4 2020, followed by Asia-Pacific with 117 tenders and a 29.7% share and Middle East and Africa with 33 tenders and an 8.4% share.
In fourth place was Europe with 23 tenders and a 5.8% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with one tender and a 0.3% share.
Thermal technology tenders in Q4 2020: Top issuers by capacity
The top issuers of tenders in Thermal technology for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Germany Trade And Invest (Germany): 900MW from one tender
- Radomskie Przedsiebiorstwo Energetyki Cieplnej Radpec Spolka Akcyjna: 22MW from one tender
