Smart Building Summit 2025 with SCC participation

The Smart Building Summit 2025 is the premier event for exploring cutting-edge intelligent building innovations. Nathan Brown, Global Thought Leader for Fire Safety, is exhibiting the latest fire safety technology with his BCA Technology team. NXP Collaborates with Shenzhen Tong to Enable the Industry’s First UWB-Based Mass Transit Solution?

NXP Semiconductors and Shenzhen Tong have introduced the industry's first ultra-wideband (UWB)-based mass transit ticketing system in Shenzhen, China. Utilizing NXP's Trimension UWB technology, this system allows commuters to pass through transit gates without the need to tap a card or phone, enhancing convenience and efficiency. The solution has been implemented at Pingshan High-Speed Railway Station and SMIC Station, with plans to expand to all 11 stations of the Yunba Line by the end of October 2024.

Improving Response Through Smart Technology?

Hillsborough County, Florida, has improved fire and medical emergency response times using advanced technologies. Covering over 900 square miles, the County implemented a GIS-based dispatch system and cellular vehicle tracking to send the nearest unit to emergencies. Traffic preemption and priority flow enhancements further boost efficiency. While some upgrades are ongoing, these efforts have already reduced response times, enhancing safety and quality of life for residents.?

Single use election sign waste diversion creates a sustainable energy alternative?

During the 2024 primary and general elections, Orange County, Florida, government resumed planning with municipal partners from the City of Orlando, City of Winter Park and the League of Women Voters of Orange County for an innovative waste diversion and recycling program. During the 2020 election cycle, 5,380 pounds of campaign signs were diverted from the landfill followed by the 2022 election season when 11,140 pounds were diverted from the landfill. Planning for the 2024 election cycle began in June, election sign drop off locations were finalized, collection dates were established and social media messaging was developed to share the information with residents and political campaigns. In August 2024, 14,000 signs weighing 1,800 pounds were diverted from the landfill and in December 2024, 35,000 signs weighing 3,800 pounds were sent to NuCycle Energy in Plant City, Florida. NuCycle shreds election signs and compresses the material with wood and other fibers to manufacture Enviro-Fuelcubes (EFC's). These EFC's are used by cement and electrical power industries to replace coal as a cleaner energy source. The metal frames were removed from each sign and recycled locally in Central Florida.?

The International Smart Cities Network (ISCN) is a project commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building to foster knowledge exchange between Smart Cities in Germany and the international environment. One of its formats, the "ISCN Global Mixer", brings you fresh inputs for Smart City Development from around the world, each in less than 30 minutes. Join us in Q1 with weekly exciting inputs and potential onramps for collaboration! Topics will range from Smart City Peer-Exchange among 12 European cities through the programme #connectedinEurope, to Open Data Provision with a Sample Data Catalogue, a Green Wave Assistant for Cycle Traffic, a Digital Twin for Urban Planning from a medium-sized German city and more.

Junaid Islam has 35 years of experience developing network protocols from MPLS routing for global Internet communications in the 90s to interference aware routing for NASA’s upcoming Artemis Moon mission. Over the past few years Junaid has focused on ensuring data is secure as it moves from sensors and imaging systems to AI based resource management programs in Smart Cities.?
