Global Markets: Changing Environments

We hope this finds you and your family well. We are in unprecedented times contributing to a changing environment for us all. We spoke to our leaders about what to keep in mind.

  • There is often a change of pace. “We are in the early days of fighting the Coronavirus; this is when it becomes crucial to adapt and take on shifting roles in your organization. It’s time to become more well-rounded and develop multiple skill sets. When you can wear many different hats, you increase your value.”
  • Resources will often become limited. “Rather than having eight people on a desk, you now have three people on a desk - which can actually make things less competitive and more focused on the clients. Ultimately, this is what your clients want.”
  • Collaboration and partnership are incredibly important. “You have to be able to get people to work together, particularly with clients. How do you get that balance and collaboration with the whole group of people you’re working with? It’s all about balancing the name on the front of the jersey with the back of the jersey.”
  • Your skillset is transferrable, even if it’s not obvious. One of our participants was a senior sales manager. He got involved in a technology company and realized that “it’s all about subscriber growth (client acquisition) – something I am very good at.” The theme is that even if you don’t know the “language” yet, you will pick it up quickly.
  • It’s okay to take some time off. “The passion fades after a little bit; you realize that you may want to do something else. My advice to people is that you really need to take some time off. I took a few board seats and took equity investments, which worked out well for me because I invested in an area I was actually interested in.”
