The Tokyo government is launching its own dating app to raise the national birth 5.1% rate. The app, set to launch this summer, requires users to prove they're single and willing to get married. Users also need to provide a tax certificate slip to verify income. The initiative is part of a broader scheme to boost the birth rate, with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida promising policies like financial aid for families, easier childcare access, and more parental leave.?
Matrimonial apps have evolved into dating platforms, reflecting a shift in relationship and marriage attitudes. These apps, which were once solely focused on lifelong partnerships, now cater to casual dating. This change is due to factors like parent-approved "official dates," deceptive intentions, and a lack of authenticity. Despite their casual nature, this platform remains key for finding companionship, emphasizing the importance of clear communication.?

In-person dating events like SinglePore are gaining popularity in Singapore, with nearly 3,000 sign-ups within hours of launch and 2,500 people on their waiting list. Organized by Candice Gallagher and using a real-time matching algorithm, these events offer an alternative to dating apps, fuelled by a growing preference for face-to-face interactions and dissatisfaction with the authenticity of online dating. The rise in such events, including others like Date My Friend and Even Up, represents a shift in the dating landscape, possibly influenced by changes in the workplace dynamics amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Research from Civic Science indicates a rise in adult dating app usage in the US, from 18% in 2022 to 23% in 2024, with men being the primary users. The study also reveals that approximately one in five American adults are actively dating. Interestingly, those who are willing to pay for dating apps are also likely to subscribe to food delivery services, suggesting a preference for convenience. Despite some dissatisfaction, the dating app industry continues to grow as more Americans are willing to subscribe in their pursuit of relationships. While nearly half of those aged 18-44 who are interested in dating don't wish to pay for dating app usage, there's been an increase in the percentage willing to spend $1 to $75 per month since last year.
