Tokyo will launch an AI dating app this spring to boost marriage and birth rates. The app will suggest partners based on extensive questionnaire responses, with users vetted for single status and income. This is part of Tokyo's efforts to enhance marriage-support services, addressing the expected population decline from 2030. The goal is to provide an easy option for those seeking marriage.
A study by Sociology professor Yue Qian from the University of British Columbia reveals how online dating influences partner selection, significantly broadening the pool of potential partners. The research indicates that online dating fosters more diverse coupling in terms of age, race, education, and immigration compared to offline dating. Offline dating, conversely, often results in couples from similar backgrounds. Qian's research, funded by a government grant, aligns with studies in the U.S., Germany, and Switzerland, suggesting that online dating could usher in a more inclusive era of partnership.
