Delhi Police's Witty Road Safety Post Goes Viral, Garnering Praise

The Delhi Police, renowned for maintaining the safety of the capital, have also gained recognition for their innovative and influential road safety campaigns on social media. In one of their posts, they creatively conveyed a message about road safety, stating, "If you look at your keyboard while driving, the thing between Q and R will meet you with a challan." The post has already become viral, amassing over 40,000 views and receiving numerous comments praising it. It conveyed that if you look at your keyboard while driving, the Delhi Police, represented by "WE," will be there to issue you a traffic challan.



Women lead road safety campaign

In an effort to raise awareness about traffic management and highlight the serious issue of safety regulation violations, Pune Times Mirror and Vilas Javdekar Developers collaborated to host the 'No Compromise On Road Safety' event in two strategic locations within the Viman Nagar area. Approximately 30 women volunteers from the Viman Nagar Women’s Club (VNWC), along with members of other community groups and ordinary citizens, teamed up with the Mirror team to promote the importance of following traffic rules and regulations. The campaign received active support from traffic constables.



Fleeing accountability: Bengaluru faces a hit-and-run epidemic

The escalating rate of hit-and-run accidents in Bengaluru, coupled with a decline in successful case resolutions, has once again brought attention to deficiencies in road infrastructure, road user behavior, and the effectiveness of existing safety measures. According to the Bengaluru Traffic Police's recent report titled 'Road Traffic Accidents in Bengaluru City 2021-2023', accessed by DH, there has been a significant 41% increase in hit-and-run accidents between 2021 and 2023. This rise aligns with a consistent year-on-year growth in fatal accidents. Since 2021, hit-and-run incidents have accounted for 30%, or nearly one-third, of all annual fatal accidents. In 2023 alone, out of 883 fatal accidents, 266 were classified as hit-and-run incidents.

Their interactive series of stories on disability-inclusive transport won in the multimedia category of these prestigious awards, which are organized by Viet Nam’s National Traffic and Safety Committee. Ms. Tang Hai Ha, a journalist with Voice of Viet Nam who led the award-winning team, emphasized the significance of accessible transport for people living with disabilities. She highlighted that accessible transport goes beyond easy travel; it symbolizes their aspirations for full integration into society, including access to education, employment, healthcare, and the opportunity to fulfill their potential.



Crash data show road safety measures must improve

Dr. Ali Soltani, along with his research colleagues from the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute at Flinders University, conducted an analysis of crash trends and locations in the Greater Melbourne Area over a span of 15 years, from 2006 to 2020. Their study identified the specific locations where crashes were most frequent and the factors contributing to elevated crash rates in those areas. The findings of this research have been published in Transport Policy.
