Global Health Metrics - Some comments

HSE said: “ADHD is a common neurodevelopmental disorder. Access to appropriate intervention and treatment has been shown to significantly improve outcomes for patients with ADHD.”

Is that a fully correct frame of analyses from the HSE??

Does this frame of analyses enjoy a level of efficacy, where all disagreement can be refuted with an exacting certitude?

Are we in the secure zone of high efficacy as FACT like COVID levels of efficacy re all ADHD as neurodevelopment???

Is ADHD Always that straightforward??

I think there is an undercurrent in this article, to near banish dissenting opinion and perhaps to stereotypical frame as rogue and charlatan outlier.?

Not dissimilar to Chief Whip 'Toe the Party Line or Else' or historical pattern as 'Doctrinal Examinations of Methodological/Assessment methods, and then making a case against on grounds of manifesting serious errors of interpretations, where identity of profession and consumers interests are not best served.?

The powerful affect of institutional signatures/fonts to defend what is in the nation's best interests, relating to certain fundament truths for what constitutes a correct diagnosis.

The article somewhat pursues a well worn strategy of blaming everyone else, and there is not even a smidgen of reflexivity, taking the stock in trade, involving an attitude of taking some responsibility, for the malaise described in the unacceptable status quo.?

Do we know why there can be increased demand for dx? Who drives that??

Where some studies estimated that the use of ADHD medications has increased by almost 800% from 2000 to 2015.?

I was a student at Trinity between 1996-1999. Later on, I enrolled for post grad psychology for a short period, and was recommended ADHD meds because of the overwhelm I felt with the demands of a full time course.?

I dropped out from in the first month or so and studied the same requirement psychology at a slower pace through the Open University.?

Back then, the clear suggestion to me, as a mature student, within Ireland Universities was that maybe all prior dxs in my history, may not have captured me, and that perhaps a ADHD dx would reincarnate focus like I never experienced before.?

At that stage it was not Adderall, rather Ritalin was the panacea.?

Re ADHD, as reported in the NYT in 2013 "A two-decade campaign by pharmaceutical companies promoting the pills to doctors, educators and parents was described by Alan Schwarz in The Times on Sunday. The tactics were brazen, often misleading and sometimes deceitful. Shire, an Irish company that makes Adderall and other A.D.H.D. medications, recently subsidized 50,000 copies of a comic book in which superheroes tell children that “Medicines may make it easier to pay attention and control your behavior!” Advertising on television and in popular magazines has sought to persuade mothers that Adderall cannot only unleash a child’s innate intelligence but make the child more amenable to chores like taking out the garbage"

Furthermore, I was encouraged through HSE services to consider antidepressants for varying subsequent issues over decades.?

The problem of recruiting consultants in many of these spheres also relates to new entrants not choosing to train in these specialties. It also relates to notions of skill sets which can act as somewhat excessive ideas of the core competencies, which can act as exclusionary and overly competitive. And is also tied up with attainment gaps which has a direct impact on the social makeup of these professions as skewed social demographics.?

Lastly, a hierarchy of thinking styles embeds down as global transmutations in curriculum design; a set of ideas concerning human nature; eg, mind/body interface of global health metrics.?

The article below elides and effaces these critical questions regarding the global dynamics of knowledge dissemination at multiple levels in society.??
