South Korea set new standards for the use of six food additives in fruit wine, including sulfur dioxide
On October 2, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea issued Notice No. 2024-56, amending part of the Food Additives Code.

On October 18, 2024, China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) issued a notice inviting public opinions on the "Consultation Draft of the Announcement on Further Strengthening the Management of Raw and Auxiliary Materials for Infant Formula Milk Powder."

China to ban food additive dehydroacetic acid
Dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt will see a widespread ban in China from 2025.
The?National Standard for Food Safety Standards for the Use of Food Additives?(GB 2760-2024), released in March 2024, deleted the regulations on the use of dehydroacetic acid and its sodium salt in food products such as starch products, bread, pastries, and fillings of bakery products, as well as lowering the maximum amount it can be used in pickled vegetables, adjusting the amount from the original 1 g/kg to 0.3 g/kg. The new version of the standard will come into effect on February 8, 2025.

Brazil revised quality standards for wine and wine derivatives

On October 11, 2024, the State Administration for Market Regulation?of China (SAMR)?issued a public announcement, seeking opinions from the society on the "Dosage Forms and Technical Requirements for Health Food Filing?Products (2024 Edition) (Draft for Consultation)" and the "Regulations on Usable Auxiliary Materials and Their Use for Health Food Filing?Products (2024 Edition) (Draft for Consultation)" (hereinafter referred to as the 2024 Draft for Consultation).
A highlight of the 2024 Draft for Consultation is the expansion of dosage forms for nutrient supplement-type health food filing?products, incorporating food forms such as candies, beverages, chocolates, jellies, and powders that are easily accepted by the general population.

Ukraine proposed to revise drinking water hygiene requirements

On October 3, 2024, the UK Food Standards Agency?(FSA)?is proposing to develop guidance on allergen declarations for non-prepackaged foods, which explains 14 mandatory allergens and the written allergen information format.

Canada proposed temporary exemption for imported foods for special dietary uses
On October 1, 2024, Canada published a Notice of Intent to Establish a Ministerial Interim Exemption Order for the Special importation of Foods for Special Dietary Purposes (FSDP) for public comment. Scope of products to be exempted: breast milk substitutes (infant formula) and breast milk fortifiers, as defined in section B.25.001 of the Food and Drug Regulations (FDR), and formulated fluid foods, as defined in section B.24.001 of the FDR, with the exception of dietary products (i.e., metabolizable products) that are applicable to individuals over the age of one year who suffer from hereditary metabolic disorders.
