Global Fight Against Cyber Attacks

The Link below is to a very interesting Forbes Article that talks to a U.N. report and call to action to create an international agreement focused on the topic of Cybersecurity. The report identifies “an urgent need for additional global collaboration not only in setting cybersecurity norms and standards around the world but in creating compliance frameworks for enforcing them.”.

In the article they call attention to the rise of cyber threats and the serious threat it represents to all nations as an estimated 64% of all business worldwide have experienced some type of cyber-attack.

The U.N. report calls for the creation of a framework for verifying conformance and imposing “meaningful and predictable consequences for wrongdoers and bad actors, including nation-states”.

The positive note is that some countries are moving in the right direction as “President Joe Biden's executive order on improving the United States' cybersecurity, the U.S. Department of Defense's Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification and Germany's IT Security Act all provide a blueprint for how to expand and clarify the U.N.'s recommendations”.

It is clear that in order to mitigate cyber risk it will require commitment by government and business leaders around the world. With much of the U.S. infrastructure owned by private companies it is essential that, in the U.S., we all do our part to secure our businesses by embracing the security controls presented in CMMC and NIST 800-171.

Governments and Businesses alike will also need to accept the consequences for not following and adhering to the requirements laid out.?
