Italy, renowned as a global fashion hub, has experienced a significant decline in its stronghold on the United Kingdom's garment market, attributed to post-COVID trade volatility. In 2019, Italy ranked as the third-largest supplier of garments to the UK. However, by January-March 2024, it had slipped to fifth position. Additionally, Italy’s share in the UK’s total apparel imports dropped to 5.76 per cent in the first quarter of this year.
The share of women's garments was around 47.34 per cent of Chinese garment exports to Saudi Arabia during January-April 2024. Chinese garment exports to the partner country totalled $769.005 million during this period. Out of the shipment, the value of women's garments was $364.019 million. The analysis of garment exports by gender showed that exports of garments for men from China were significantly lower than those for women.
