Everything is not fine

Everything is not fine

Attention my attorney friends; Everything is NOT fine!

While I know there is a lot of fear mongering going on right now, getting REAL is also not a bad idea. Just look at the crazy stock-market, reduced airline travel, and massive numbers of events cancelled. I mean, they are literally sending kids home from college. When's the last time you saw that. How about never. Regardless, it’s certainly a tumultuous time. And it seems to be getting worse every day. Here’s a recent article from Above the Law that you might want to read. This pending recession will be impacting everyone, but my concern is primarily within the legal community. If you are a big firm senior associate, service partner or equity without your own book of business, you need to get your head out of the sand and get active.

When billable hours start getting reduced and layoffs begin happening, how are you going to protect yourself and your family? What’s your backup plan if things go sideways? The legal recruiters will not be accepting your calls and resume’s. You must have a portable book of business in excess of $400,000 to be marketable to other law firms. I would HIGHLY suggest you begin planning and executing on new business development initiatives today, tomorrow and moving forward.

I am happy to offer up a FREE copy of my book, “The Ambitious Attorney,” which covers business development, networking and branding best practices to anyone interested. Just email me at [email protected] for your copy. I am also available for 30-minute evaluation consultations to help guide you in your biz-dev endeavors or to just be helpful. Please email me for that as well.

If you agree that this is an important topic and needs to be discussed, please like, share or comment on this post. I know there are attorneys out there that will be hurt in the coming months and I’d like to see that number limited if possible. https://abovethelaw.com/2020/03/what-will-this-recession-mean-for-biglaw/
