Global Day of Parents 2024
June 1st is Global Day of Parents! This day is intended to recognize the central role that families, parents and caregivers play in the well-being and development of children. Parents are also a huge portion of the workforce, with 92% of families with children in the US having at least one parent employed, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. ?
?
At Monster, we recognize how important parents are in the home and the value they add at the workplace, which is why we created PAC, our Parents & Caregivers ERG. This group is for anyone who is a parent (biological, adopted, step, foster, and others) or a caregiver. ?This community understands that it’s not always easy to balance work and caring for others, and this group exists to give monsters a safe and welcoming place to share tips, vent, laugh and connect about the things that brings parents and caregivers together other than work.
?
In honor of Global Day of Parents, we connected with three members of our PAC ERG who shared their best piece of advice for working parents. Here’s what they had to say:
“Talk to your kids about your work. I love my job and I'm proud of the work I do, and I share that with my kids. It's important to me that they see the side of me that can confidently solve problems, lead people, and manage tasks... especially because I don't always do things so easily at home!”

“Prioritize your home/parenting time the same way you prioritize work tasks and plan accordingly. Know where you have "hard stops" and flexibilities to take advantage of in both work and home life. **Part of this is also about being present in the moment - for both work and home. When possible, try not to do both at the same time. Distractions make your time less quality in both places. I work 100% remote so it can be hard to separate from work at times. I made rules for myself about when I will check my work email and when I won't. That way if something does come up for work, I'll have seen the email during a window where I can devote a short time to read/address it, instead of having to simultaneously run to the kitchen and prevent the pasta from boiling over.”
?
“With mornings, evenings, and weekends dedicated to parenting, it can be a wonderful treat to enjoy a random day off just for yourself. Don't squeeze in errands or chores; do nothing other than relax and do what you loved to do before becoming a parent.”

We appreciate these Monster moms taking the time to share their thoughts with us! If you’re a working parent, here are some resources that can help you in your career journey:

4 个月Nothing makes me happier than seeing a company support employees who are parents. Providing support specific to parents is not only compassionate, it makes great business sense! When parents are experiencing challenges with kids it leads to absenteeism and reduced job performance. I have had the pleasure of supporting many working parents to navigate these challenges and find a sustainable balance between work and home. Great job Monster !!
