Competition Details
On June 6th, 2015 Big Data Utah and Boulder / Denver Big Data Users Group (BDBDUG) will kick off the Global Data Competition.
This inaugural global data competition will be focused on Climate Change and split into 22 regions around the world. map.global-data-competition.com
The competition will be held in two phases. Each of which will have a scoring system that will allow solutions to be compared within the region it is submitted in. Competitors can compete on an individual, group (2-10 people), or organization (10+) level.
The final rankings will be made public and can be used on LinkedIn or other sites around the world to allow competitors to show how well they did!
The first phase will be a predictive bench marking competition. We're trying to provide options here to compete on. The first is: A Binary Image Classification problem and the Data behind it will be provided on June 6th (https://www.global-data-competition.com/everything). We'll also provide code soon to help you get started. Another option directly related to Climate Change should be available soon.
There will be a link to submit your solutions to a Kaggle style/Real Time grading system. Submissions in this phase must include your full code. Multiple Submissions will be allowed. Your best submission will be bench marked and your performance will award you points on a sliding scale.
The closer your team's predication is to 100%, the more points you can receive for your team in your region. The higher your points, the higher your ranking title. (e.g. "Master" or "Participant").
Phase 1 will begin on June 6th (you don't need to start that day, but the sooner the better).
The second phase will begin later in the Summer. Phase two will still be related to Climate Change. You will be tested on many aspects of Data Science. This phase encourages collaboration, as there are many skills within Big Data and Data Science and being the best at all of them... well, you get the point. You will be able to build on your overall ranking and title with points awarded in the second phase.
Details for Phase 2 will be released as we near that start date.
