2. Strengthening our UNDAC Operational Partner Role with Three Key Missions in 2023?
When disasters strike anywhere around the world, the first international emergency response team to arrive is typically an UNDAC (United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination) team. Over the past three decades, UNDAC, who is managed by OCHA , has consistently deployed personnel to the front lines of hundreds of major disaster operations. Whether it was the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, the Haiti earthquake in 2010, or the West Africa Ebola outbreak in 2014, UNDAC has been there, ready to respond within 12-48 hours.?
iMMAP Inc. has been an Operational Partner of UNDAC since January 2023, and has already contributed with field and remote deployments to 3 major operations this year, which include the floods in the DRC, the Earthquake in Türkiye and the devastating floods in Libya, as outlined below.?
?????? Capacity Building in RDC After Devastating Floods
In January, two dedicated iMMAP Inc. surge roster members, Patrice Fillon and Oscar Gobbato, joined UNDAC's mission to the Democratic Republic of the Congo following catastrophic floods and landslides. They provided valuable capacity building and technical support to enhance the skills of local authorities in Information Management (IM). In delivering extensive training in data collection and various GIS tools, the mission empowered local experts, ensuring better emergency preparedness in the future.
?????? Supporting Relief Efforts After February 6th Earthquake in Türkiye/Syria In February, when devastating earthquakes struck Türkiye and Syria, iMMAP Inc.’s Nour Khalil swiftly joined UNDAC's mission in Gaziantep, Türkiye. Nour played a crucial role in supporting the designing of time-sensitive assessments, contributing to complex data collection tasks, and providing her expertise in data analysis during her one-month deployment.

?????? Assessing Urgent Needs in Libya Flood Response
In September 2023, as Storm Daniel hit northern Libya, provoking the collapse of two dams upstream the city of Derna, once again Nour Khalil deployed with UNDAC to support this Operation. Just four days after the dams broke, Nour joined the UNDAC team as an IM Officer to assess the urgent needs of Libya's affected populations in the wake of this monumental disaster.?

12 个月IMMAP's professional expertise and support in data driven decision making is humanitarian interventions should be commended. It also goes without saying there is a lot of gap in understanding and generating well disaggregated and timely data for efficient and effective humanitarian interventions, esp.in Africa and other LDCs. Thanks.
