Yesterday was the last day of Global Challenges in Transport, Oxford Leadership Programme. I was very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend such a very well-organized, well-structured, interactive and informative course and work with an excellent group of researchers and expert on the Problem Solving project throughout the course.
I learned a lot, but here are few key takeaways:
- We don't know yet the impact of COVID-19 on the mobility sector, but positive fundamental changes after COVID-19 are possible if policies are considered more comprehensively putting inclusivity, justice and livability at the core.
- Changing people mobility behavior is never simple or individualistic but the result of complex, space and time specific interactions between the individuals and the materials, not always out of free will or rational as it might sound but mostly habitual, path-dependent and also dynamic.
- When designing infrastructure, pay attention to the very small details and think of the future (Repair, maintain and repurpose).
- Transport-related justice is typically understood in terms of distribution: who benefits, who loses, why & how? (Key questions that need to be answered clearly and transparently in policy making and resources allocation and much more.
The course will be available again in Feb 2020. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in the topic. You can check out the course website here
If you are interested in discussing more any of these topics, please get in touch. I would really be interested in diving more in these topics and exchange ideas. [email protected]
