Synopsis
Welcome to our report on Global Business Aircraft Utilisation for January 2024. We analysed data from 9704 business jets across 139118 flights in January 2024 to provide valuable insights for decision-making. Our focus is on comparative understanding of how different types of aircraft are utilised, aiming to assist businesses in making informed decisions. The conclusions are focused on?
The report emphasises actual flight data for accuracy, excluding aircraft types with insufficient data. We have looked at the number of flights and not considered geographical regions or flight purpose in this report.
Key Insights:
Light Propeller Aircraft: These were the most utilised, averaging over 23 flights per aircraft monthly.
Light vs. Midsize: The average utilisation of Light and Midsize categories was nearly identical. Essentially, Light jets were not utilised more than mid-size jets.?
Heavy vs. Ultra Long Range: Utilisation was evenly spread over aircraft types in the category, with Ultra Long Range aircraft slightly ahead.
Super Mid Size: Showed the most variation, likely due to continued operations of older aircraft.
Embraer and Pilatus Aircraft were the most utilised in their respective categories. In particular, Embraer Praetor 500 was utilised more than double of the category average.??
Light Jets
The light aircraft segment was analysed with a sample size of 1991 light jets flying over 30,240 flights in the month. The share of major models is shown below.?
Utilisation
Cessna Citation as a group of variants has the maximum share of the fleet. Within the Citations, the CJ2, CJ2+ and CJ3 have better utilisation and their flight share is marginally higher than their share of the fleet.?
Embraer Phenom 300 was clearly the most performing light jet with a fleet share of 12% but a higher flight share of 20%.?
Embraer Phenom 300 was the most utilised Light jet with an average of more than 25 flights per aircraft which is nearly 66% higher than the category average of 14.7. It was closely followed by Pilatus PC-24.?
Light Propeller Aircraft
The light propeller aircraft segment was analysed with a sample size of 1314 aircraft flying over 32,455 flights in the month. The share of major models is shown below.?
Utilisation
Fleet share is fairly distributed among Beechcraft King Air, Pilatus and Cessna Caravan.
Pilatus PC series was the most performing with a fleet share of 30% but a fairly higher flight share of 45%.?
Pilatus PC-12/47 was the most utilised with an average of nearly 40 flights per aircraft which is nearly 70% higher than the category average of 23.14. It was closely followed by Cessna Grand Caravan and King Air B200.?
Mid Size
The midsize segment was analysed with a sample size of 943 midsize aircraft flying 14067 flights in the month. The share of major models is shown below.?
Utilisation
Fleet share is dominated by the Cessna Citation series and in particular the Excel, XLS and XLS+. Now out of production, the Hawker 800 - 900 series continues to have a large fleet share but a declining flight share.

Cessna Citation Excel was the leader with over 22% share of the flights. Embraer Praetor 500/450? was the most performing midsize jet with a fleet share of 4.1% but a significantly higher flight share at 8.7%.?
Embraer Praetor 500/450 was the most utilised with an average of nearly 32 flights per aircraft which is 118% more than the category average of 14.6.
Super Mid Size
The super midsize segment was analysed with a sample size of 887 aircraft belonging to major aircraft types flying 14117 flights in the month. The share of major models is shown below.?
Utilisation
Fleet share is dominated by the Challenger 300-350 series
Challenger 300/350 were the leaders with over 45% share of the flights. Challenger 350? was the most performing midsize jet with a fleet share of 14% but a significantly higher flight share at 23%.?
Challenger 350 was the most utilised with an average of nearly 26 flights per aircraft which is 108% more than the category average of 12.5. It was followed by Embraer Praetor 600 at an average of 21 flights per aircraft.
Heavy
The Heavy segment was analysed with a sample size of 857 aircraft belonging to major aircraft types flying 9687 flights in the month. The share of major models is shown below.?
Utilisation
Fleet share is spread between Gulfstream variants, Falcon 2000 variants, Challenger variants and Embraer 600.
Gulfstream and Challenger were the segment leaders with over 33% share of the flights each. All aircraft have nearly the same flight share as the fleet share.?
Embraer Legacy 650 was the most utilised with an average of nearly 16 flights per aircraft which is 55% more than the category average of 10.3.
Ultra Long Range
The Ultra long-range segment was analysed with a sample size of 796 aircraft belonging to major aircraft types flying 8407 flights in the month. The share of major models is shown below.?
Utilisation
Fleet share is moderately in favour of Global variants with nearly 41% share.
?All aircraft had nearly the same flight share as the fleet share. Global 6000 and G550 stood out as having a better flight share than the fleet share. Global 6000 had nearly 50% better flight share than its share in the fleet.?
Global 7500 was the most utilised with an average of nearly 17 flights per aircraft which was 70% more than the category average of 10.4 closely followed by Global 6000.
