The Regents of the University of California invented a method and system for treating affective disorders such as depression and/or anxiety and/or related disorders through neuromodulatory intervention that includes brain targets within the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC). This method includes the application of electrical stimulation through an electrical signal generator device where the distal end of the device comprises at least one stimulating electrode in contact with the OFC. The treatment system includes patient selection, implantation of at least one stimulating electrode in contact with the OFC, acute or chronic electrical stimulation of the OFC, and evaluation of the effects of stimulation on clinical symptoms and status.

Itzhak Fried Itzhak FRIED et. al., disclosed memory enhancement by prefrontal deep brain stimulation synchronized to medial temporal lobe during sleep; closed-loop neuromodulatory system comprises one or more processors and memory. The system is configured to record signals from a first region of a brain of a human subject during sleep via a first electrode. The system is configured to determine, from the recorded signals, active periods of the first region. The system is configured to stimulate a second region of the brain, different from the first region, during the active periods via a second electrode that is electrically coupled to the first electrode via closed-loop control.

Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University invented a method of controlling robotic arm based on brain activities. The method includes measuring HbO level of non-disabled subject at target brain areas during wrist movement using a fNIRS device with light sources and detectors. The method further includes detecting brain activities of non-disabled subject through said detectors based on HbO level of non-disabled subject during wrist movement, and classifying brain activities corresponding to wrist movement using classification algorithms and generating training data set. The method also includes generating control signals based on brain activities for robotic arm to perform wrist movement, and detecting brain activities of disabled subject at target brain areas based on HbO level using fNIRS device. The method includes analyzing brain activities of disabled subject based on training data set, and generating control signal for robotic arm to perform wrist movement based on analyzed brain activity of disabled subject.

Washington University in St. Louis Washington University a compositions and methods for the treatment, prevention, or reversal of a central nervous system (CNS) injury or disorder in a patient in need that include administering a therapeutically effective amount of meningeal immune cells are disclosed. Specifically, the meningeal immune cells comprise Ly6C+ monocytes. Further disclosed are wherein the meningeal immune cells are modified to include a drug or gene therapeutic compound, and wherein the modified meningeal immune cells are configured to deliver the drug or gene therapeutic compound to the CNS of the subject via the parenchyma or meningeal tissue of the subject.
