Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)
Equinox Open Library Initiative
Empower your library with open source technologies.
By Stephanie Leary, Edited by Laura Barry
We’ve made huge strides in accessibility support over the last year. A few highlights:
And we’re gearing up for Evergreen 3.13 in a few weeks! We’ve rebuilt our data tables from scratch to include automatic column sizing and text wrapping (no more cut off barcodes!) and an innovative, keyboard-accessible resize feature. We’re also introducing a new MARC editor and Reports module that have been redesigned with accessibility in mind sponsored by the King County Library System.

We’ve been working hard on improvements to Evergreen’s staff interface. This summer, we’ll turn our attention to the OPAC!
We have major improvements to Evergreen’s Circulation module in the works. Keep an eye out for even more accessibility features in Evergreen 3.14.
We’ve also been working on a whole new CORAL interface, which will debut later this year. In advance of that release you can join us in June for the equinoxEDU: Spotlight on the CORAL User Interface and Accessibility Updates on June 20, 2024 at 12pm EDT - registration is free.
And we’ll be at Koha-US in August to talk about accessibility in Koha ("Let's Talk About Koha Accessibility for Library Staff" on Thursday, August 15, 2024)!
We are keeping a close eye on accessibility regulations around the world. Our goal is to ensure that libraries using open source software can provide a barrier-free user experience to all patrons and staff in accordance with local laws.?
