Global Accessibility Awareness Day

I want to thank Joe Devon and Jennison Asuncion for the huge contribution they made in starting GAAD (Global Accessibility Awareness Day) Foundation .

?

Digital accessibility and inclusive design are more vital than ever.? AI could revolutionise digital accessibility, bringing solutions and enhancements to online experiences for people with disabilities – but for that to be true, design matters.? Today is a very good moment to think profoundly about truly inclusive design and inclusive data.

?

You can help, by turning awareness into action.

?

GAAD shares plenty of resources which can help you jump start or help create your own ideas, including:

  1. Watch a Disability Awareness video
  2. Read about updated disability language
  3. Incorporate your newfound knowledge into daily life

?

I urge businesses to think about how their sites welcome all customers. Don't forget, the spending power of disabled people is over £270bn, known as the purple pound ( Purple Tuesday ) .

And if you're a designer - especially in developing and applying new technology - you will want to make sure it's inclusive of all future users.

There’s been a welcome restatement in Parliament recently too of the need to make government publications and communications more accessible – see the Disability Action Plan.

I’ll be checking and checking again for the accessibility of the actions I take in my life and work and I’m glad of a chance to reflect with millions of others worldwide on how this field is essential – for everyone.
