“Glimpsify” to Boost Your Persuasion

“Glimpsify” to Boost Your Persuasion

After five years of conducting Elevator Speech Training with thousands of clients, all my training sessions now focus on a critical technique that elevates persuasive communication. This method has become so central that I've decided to name it "glimpsifying."

"Glimpsifying" is the art of providing brief, vivid snippets of evidence that give your audience quick glimpses into the substance behind your claims. To "glimpsify" means to enhance persuasion by offering concise, impactful evidence through specific details that reveal the underlying reality of a situation or claim.

Glimpsifying is to storytelling what a quick sketch is to a detailed painting. It captures the essence in just a few brushstrokes, making it ideal for swift communication and efficient pitching.?

Glimpsifying in Action

Let's look at an example from ElevatorSpeech.app that demonstrates glimpsifying:

"For example, just yesterday, right here in my lab, I tested 20,335 compounds in just 3 minutes using a single test tube the size of your index finger. My competitors would need to analyze separate test tubes for each compound and spend three weeks to achieve the same result."

Here’s the same evidence statement without glimpsifying:

"For example, we've recently made advancements in our research methods. Our new process allows us to test a large number of compounds much faster than before. This gives us a significant advantage over our competitors, who still use traditional methods that take considerably longer to achieve similar results."

This first statement is much more persuasive because it effectively glimpsifies by incorporating:?

1. Time: "just yesterday"

2. Place: "right here in my lab"

3. Number with Context: "20,335 compounds in just 3 minutes"

4. Perception: "a single test tube the size of your index finger"

5. Comparison: "My competitors would need... three weeks"

These specific details align with the six key evidence dimensions highlighted at ElevatorSpeech.app

Why Glimpsifying Works

Glimpsifying is effective because:

1. It grounds claims in specific, potentially verifiable details.

2. It creates clearer mental images for the audience.

3. It triggers a “seeing-is-believing” reaction in your listeners.

Applying Glimpsifying in Various Contexts?

ElevatorSpeech.App guides users to apply glimpsifying in the evidence section when making a pitch, a point, or even when simply sharing an opinion. The versatile technique can be used in various persuasive contexts, from presentations to casual conversations.

When crafting your message, focus on including concrete details that give your audience a glimpse of the real substance behind your claims. By incorporating this method into your arguments – providing clear, specific glimpses of evidence – you can markedly improve the impact of your message.?

I encourage you to glimpsify more often when you communicate. Your audience will appreciate the clarity and specificity, finding anything you say more compelling and convincing.

Amazing! Good name. And it’s relevant to much more than elevator pitches. In fact I am using these elements of specificity to support a travel insurance claim I am making: first we did x on the morning of August x, then we called y, and for good measure we also zz, right after that. Makes a more persuasive insurance claim, than just “we lost these items while on our trip”….

I love this. I still incorporate so much of my learnings from our time together in my storytelling.
